Need to Make a Will?
Seasoned Tallahassee Estate Planning Lawyers
In the state of Florida, should you die without having a will in place, your property could be apportioned according to intestate succession laws, which will give it to your close relatives. If no living relatives can be found, the state will inherit your property. You need to have a plan if something happens to you. A will can be a means of directing what should happen to your property if you die. Get in touch with a Tallahassee estate planning attorney when you are ready to protect your property.
You need knowledgeable, and effective legal support when you decide to pursue any form of estate planning. Mathews Law Firm, P.A. understands the serious nature of enshrining your desires for your assets after you die, and we work hard to provide our clients with dedicated support, and advice. Our firm has been working alongside clients for over 30 years, and we have all the tools to manage your assets to accomplish your goals.
What Can a Will Do?
While you are not legally obligated to use a lawyer to create a will, it is highly advisable that you do so given the sensitive nature of estate planning in general, especially if, for example, you believe your will may be contested or if you wish to disinherit a spouse. An attorney can help you navigate difficult issues such as these.
A will can be used for the following:
- Name a guardian to look after your minor children
- Name a personal representative to ensure the terms of your will are executed properly
- Leave your property to a certain person or organization
- Name a trusted individual to handle the property you leave to minor children
To finalize a will, you will need to sign your will in front of two witnesses who must also sign your will. It need not be notarized, but having it notarized can help with the probate process by allowing the court to not need to contact the signing witnesses.
